I believe healthcare can be better—much better

My passion lies in helping people reclaim their lives from the constraints of poor gut health, which can affect so many facets of health. Whether it’s the discomfort of a gastrointestinal disorder, the embarrassment of socially awkward symptoms, low energy, hormonal issues or the anxiety of not knowing what to eat, my goal is simple: to make life more enjoyable and less limited by these challenges. The amazing thing is that research is increasingly showing us how to do this effectively, allowing us to move beyond restrictive diets and endless medications and supplements.

As a naturopathic doctor with over 20 years of experience, my focus is on gut health and the gut-brain interaction. I believe everyone should be able to eat without pain and that health should allow the widest variety of foods possible. My approach integrates the best available research with clinical experience, always prioritizing patient preferences and collaborative care. Health shouldn't feel like a never-ending battle; together, we can make it easier.

Professional Snapshot

I am an adjunct faculty member at the University of Waterloo's School of Pharmacy and a passionate international speaker, consultant, and advocate for gut health education. I have lectured for Canadian universities on health promotion, functional foods, and natural health care products, and have run continuing education for healthcare professionals for over a decade, focusing on the microbiota, strain-specific probiotics, and gastrointestinal health.

My professional journey has included collaboration with numerous companies and organizations, such as Thorne, Designs for Health, Rocky Mountain Analytical (LifeLabs), Diva Inc and Ferring Pharmaceuticals, where I served on the advisory board for natural health care products. I have also contributed as a clinical lead in research with the Spagnuolo Research Lab at the University of Guelph.

As a member of the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility and the American College of Gastroenterology, I stay engaged with the latest advancements in gut health. My certifications include the Monash Low FODMAP program and gut-directed hypnotherapy facilitation through Nerva, reflecting my commitment to diverse, evidence-based approaches.

Personal Passions

Outside of my professional life, I am deeply committed to personal growth and community. I can often be found tending to my heirloom tomatoes and basil in my backyard garden, exploring new recipes, and spending quality time with my supportive partner, Don. I enjoy outdoor adventures with my friends, and cherish moments with my colleagues who inspire me to excel both professionally and personally.

Together, we can navigate the complexities of gut health and work towards a life that’s not defined by dietary restrictions but enriched by the freedom to enjoy food and experiences fully. Let's make health less about what we can't do and more about what we can.
